Turkish side Galatasaray have announced the signing of Ivorian striker Didier Drogba from Shanghai Shenhua on a one-and-a-half-year contract.
"Big clubs can reach for higher targets with bigger goals," the club's president Unal Aysal commented on the deal.
"Drogba said that he was very happy to play for a big club like Galatasaray in the future. Drogba met our coach and decided to come to Galatasaray."
The 34-year-old striker, who is currently captaining the Ivory Coast at the Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa, only joined Shanghai Shenhua from Chelsea last summer.
Drogba moved to China after helping Chelsea win the Champions League last May, according to media reports, in a deal worth around $300, 000 a week.
Shanghai-based Oriental Sports daily said last month that the player was owed money by the Chinese club.
Drogba applied for permission to leave on loan before the January transfer window but world soccer's ruling body FIFA refused the request.
The striker returned to Chelsea to train at his former club in a bid to stay in shape for the Nations Cup, fuelling media speculation of a return to Europe.
His move to Turkey comes less than a week after Holland midfielder Wesley Sneijder joined Galatasaray from Inter Milan.
